Thünen Institute

The Thünen Institute (TI) in Germany is a federal research institute under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL). With its 15 research institutes, it conducts research in the fields of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, cooperates nationally and internationally with universities and other research organisations and is involved in the training of scientists. To find scientifically sound answers to societal questions about the sustainable use of our natural resources and the vital development of rural areas, the Thünen Institute works at the interface of science, politics and society. It is recognised for carrying out extensive monitoring activities, developing options for action to better manage livelihoods, and assessing the likely consequences.
